President Obama’s recent decision to delay the employer mandate has left many people concerned about the current status of the health care reform implementation strategy. While most employers are relieved to discover that this mandate is postponed, many employees and individuals are now worried about paying for health care on their own.

A recent article from the Baltimore Sun, reveals that Obama’s decision to delay the employer mandate leaves an unexpected financial burden on the healthcare reform policy. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that this delay will cost $12 billion dollars. Large group employers who were supposed to provide health insurance to their full time workers will not be held responsible until 2015. This means that more than half of the people expecting to be insured through employer coverage must purchase an individual policy. Some of these people may qualify for government help, therefore adding to the $12 billion dollar delay.
